What Is Distillate Used For?

The cannabis industry’s worldwide turnover is valued at over £20 billion and is set to grow to £69 billion by 2026.

Rising interest in cannabis and CBD products have fueled this growth. CBD has now expanded into a wide range of products, from lotions and topicals to gummies and e-vape liquids. CBD distillate is rapidly climbing in popularity due to its purity and effectiveness.

But what is distillate, and how is it made? What is distillate used for?

Keep reading to learn all about CBD distillate and its uses.

What is Distillate?

Contents

“Distillate” refers to the runny, translucent oil produced when resin from a cannabis plant is distilled. Distillate is free from waxes and other unwanted cannabis plant compounds. This makes the oil odorless, tasteless, and useful in various CBD and THC products.

The varying concentration of CBD and THC compounds in distillate will change how it affects the user. CBD distillate is pure, concentrated cannabidiol that relieves pain and anxiety.

How is Distillate Made?

Distillate is made through a three-step process. The first step is winterization, where the cannabis extracts mix with ethanol and chill for 24 to 48 hours. Impurities coagulate and filter out of the crude extract, and the ethanol is later removed.

The second step is decarboxylation, which heats the extract until carboxylic acid separates from the compounds. This process prepares the cannabinoids to interact with the human body.

Lastly, the product goes through a distillation process. Vacuum pressure and heat draw the CBD compounds from the extract. The final result is highly concentrated cannabinoid oil.

Because CBD is a crystalline compound, it tends to revert to its original crystalline form. To prevent this, it’s important to use crystal resistant distillate in CBD products.

Does Distillate Have THC?

Distillate can contain either THC or CBD, depending on the cannabinoid compounds targeted during distillation. THC distillate is incredibly potent and produces an intense, euphoric “high” sensation. CBD distillate will never cause a high, but it can aid in anxiety and pain relief.

In short, not all distillates will contain THC. If you do not want to consume THC, it’s important to ensure that you purchase pure THC-free distillate.

Is CBD Distillate Legal in the UK?

As of 2022, CBD products are legal in the UK as long as they contain less than 1mg of trace THC and are extracted from a hemp plant with less than 0.3% THC.

CBD distillate is an extremely pure form of CBD oil. The THC content in CBD distillate is near zero, making this product safe and legal throughout the UK. Even so, it is wise to discreetly consume CBD isolate to avoid confusion with law enforcement.

How to Use CBD Distillate

CBD distillate is potent, odorless, colorless, and tasteless. This makes distillate a key ingredient for creating a variety of CBD products. It’s best to purchase distillate from professionals who know how to make CBD products.

You can inhale CBD distillate as a dab oil or through flavored vape e-liquids. You can consume CBD distillate in gummies, tinctures, and other edibles or apply it through topical lotions. In any form, CBD can help control chronic pain and aid in relaxation.

The method you choose for using CBD distillate may change its effect on your body. For example, inhaling distillate through a vape pen will have an immediate calming effect, while a CBD edible will take longer to “kick in.” Topicals are ideal for treating localized pain, such as pain from arthritis.

Kick Back and Relax

So, what is distillate? In short, distillate is CBD or THC concentrate, ready for use in a wide range of cannabis products. CBD distillate is useful for natural pain and anxiety relief and can be inhaled, ingested, or applied topically.
