Hemp Production 101: What Does a Large-Scale Hemp Producer Do?

Hemp is a variety of cannabis Sativa plant species, more commonly known as marijuana. However, hemp does not contain the same levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound associated with the psychoactive effects of marijuana. Hemp is used for various industrial purposes, such as making paper and clothing, as well as producing CBD oil.

Often people confuse hemp with CBD, but they are actually two distinct substances both derived from Cannabis Sativa. Hemp oil contains very little THC and is not designed for medical purposes like CBD oil. However, hemp oil does contain an array of beneficial properties that can be used in herbal remedies and supplements due to its high nutritional content and calming effects. Hemp provides numerous health benefits traditionally consumed by humans on a daily dietary basis.

Hemp production has skyrocketed over the past few years as more and more people are discovering the benefits of hemp-derived products, from CBD oil to fabrics. But what exactly does a large-scale hemp producer do? How do they process hemp? And how do they market it once it’s ready for sale? Let’s take a look.

How Hemp is Processed

Contents

Hemp is grown in fields much like any other crop. Once it is harvested, it needs to be processed before it can be used for its various applications. The first step in producing large amounts of hemp is processing the raw material. This involves drying out the plant material, which removes moisture and allows for more efficient harvesting. This removes excess moisture so that the plant material can be extracted more easily.

When properly dried, the plant material can be put through a de-stemming machine that separates the stems from the leaves and flowers. The milled material is then put through a series of solvent extractions to remove all traces of THC (the psychoactive compound found in cannabis plants) before being refined further into different types of products such as oils and tinctures or fabrics and clothing.

Packaging and Selling Hemp

Once the hemp has been processed and refined into its final form, it’s ready to be packaged for sale. Most large-scale producers package their products in bulk containers such as drums or totes so that they can ship them easily and efficiently to customers around the world.

The most common buyers of bulk hemp extract are manufacturers of CBD products such as tinctures and edibles, as well as retailers who specialize in selling CBD products online and in brick-and-mortar stores. Manufacturers also often purchase pre-made products such as CBD capsules or salves directly from producers.

Marketing & Selling Hemp Products

Once processed, large-scale hemp producers need to find buyers for their products. This can be done through a variety of methods such as selling directly to retailers or wholesalers, selling online via eCommerce platforms, or even working with distributors who specialize in CBD products. Retailers and wholesalers will typically purchase bulk quantities of the product while distributors may purchase smaller quantities but still require large amounts overall due to their network of customers across multiple markets.

Large-scale hemp producers also need to ensure that their products meet all regulations in order to ensure quality standards are met for both consumers and retailers alike. This means conducting third-party lab testing on every batch before shipping out any product. Lab testing ensures that there are no heavy metals or pesticides present in the finished product which would otherwise make them unsafe for consumption or use.

Who Do They Sell To?

Large-scale hemp producers typically target two main markets—CBD shop owners and wholesalers/distributors. CBD shop owners will often purchase directly from producers in order to ensure consistent quality at an affordable price point while wholesalers/distributors will typically purchase in bulk in order to reach a larger audience with their products. Depending on their goals, large-scale hemp producers may target one or both of these markets depending on their needs and objectives.

Wrapping up

Large-scale hemp and CBD manufacturers play an integral role in supplying high-quality CBD products to consumers around the world. They have complex processes involved from growing and harvesting to processing and marketing that must all come together seamlessly in order for them to successfully provide top-quality products at competitive prices on a global scale.

As more people become aware of the potential health benefits associated with CBD oil, this industry will continue to grow exponentially and these large-scale producers will remain an essential part of that growth moving forward into the future.

For this reason alone it’s important for retailers looking to stock CBD oil within their stores or online shops should seek out reputable sources such as companies who produce large quantities of high-quality hemp-derived products consistently over time so they know exactly what they’re getting each time they place an order with them!
