However, there’s been a global wave of weed legalizations in the past few years. In this article, we’ll go over 10 countries where weed has now been legalized. This means in these places, possession, and usage of cannabis is not considered a crime.

While it isn’t legal to store weed at home, but people can use it in shops. You can find weed leaves drawn onto the walls of various coffee shops in the country.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, these coffee shops were shut down by the Government. The order was reversed soon after, allowing coffee shops to reopen weed sales.
2. Canada
18+ people in Canada can possess up to thirty grams of weed in public legally.
They are also allowed to grow up to 4 marijuana plants at home. However, the law restricts the buying and selling of marijuana to licensed retailers and producers only.
3. Uruguay
Recreational usage of marijuana had been legalized in Uruguay in 2013 for 18+ folks.
Residents are required to get themselves registered with a regulator to buy and hoard marijuana for recreational use.
4. South Africa
South Africa is one of the more laid-back countries when it comes to marijuana consumption laws.
South Africa’s Constitutional Court had decriminalized the private growing, possession, and usage of weed by adults in 2018.
However, buying, selling, and usage of weed in public are prohibited under the law.
5. Jamaica
Jamaica decriminalized weed back in 2015. They allow the usage of cannabis for medicinal and religious reasons.
6. Costa Rica
Costa Rica doesn’t have any legal penalties against smoking cannabis, but its usage is still illegal. Selling cannabis is punishable by law, but it’s usual to see people lighting up joints at Costa Rican beaches publicly.

7. Colombia
As the Colombian climatic conditions are highly suitable for weed production, the plants can grow huge in the country!
Colombia allows its people to grow up to 20 marijuana plants at home for personal use. However, selling marijuana is illegal. As for possession, they have decriminalized having up to 20 grams.
8. Spain
In 2017, Spain fully legalized all smoking clubs in Catalonia. People are allowed to smoke weed here as long as it’s restricted to clubs. However, there aren’t any knowns fines or penalties for smoking freely but it’s still considered illegal.
9. Belize
In 2017, Belize decriminalized possessing up to 10 grams of cannabis. Residents are allowed to carry it at home or keep it at someone’s property by obtaining the required permissions. The permissions act as a small restriction to manage weed usage, but there’s no ban.
10. The Czech Republic
Here, marijuana has been legalized for medicinal purposes for years. Most of it is imported into the country, making it fairly pricy. Possessing up to 15 grams of marijuana has been decriminalized.
