Ingredients –
- Oven/ Pressure Cooker/Instant Pot/ Crock pot (whichever you prefer)
- ½ ounce of the weed you prefer
- 1 cup butter
- Grinder/ Scissors
- Canning jar
- 2-3 cups water
- Funnel
- Cheesecloth for straining
Note – To help you with the weed to butter ratio, we generally use 4 sticks of butter for every ounce of cannabis. But if this is your first time, we would recommend you to start with little. If you use half ounce of marijuana, you can use 2 sticks of butter.
Step 1: Prep the Herbs
First of all, grind your herbs using a grinder or a pair of scissors. Just make sure to grind it fine but not like a powder.
Step 2: Decarb Cannabis
Take a saucepan and add water to it for boiling. Then add marijuana such that it is always floating 1 ½ to 2 inches above the bottom of the pan. While the water and marijuana are boiling in this pan, take another pan and add butter to it. Melt this butter completely.
Step 3: Mix the Two
After the butter has melted, add marijuana to it. Make sure to turn the heat down to very low once you have added the weed. Now keep this mixture on low to cook for about 2 to 3 hours. You will understand that that cannabutter has cooked well when it turns glassy and thick from a watery consistency.
Step 4: Strain the Mixture
Once the butter is done cooking, keep it aside to cool down. After a while, take a funnel and cheesecloth and a jar in which you will be storing this butter. Set up the funnel and cheesecloth on the jar to strain the cannabutter so as to remove any weed debris. Be careful here for there are chances of spilling.
Once you have taken the pure mixture into the jar, let it cool down for some time and then put it in the refrigerator to store. Keep the cannabutter for 2 to 3 hours in the fridge to harden. Now the THC and other weed characteristics have been transferred and attached to the butter. You can use this cannabutter to make cannabis edibles.
If there is any water in the butter, you will notice is after refrigerating the butter. Once the cannabutter turns hard, you can remove the rest of the water. Your cannabutter is now ready to use. You can add it to brownies, cookies or chocolates and enjoy an edible high of stronger psychoactive effects than smoking a joint.
