Thinking about Growing Cannabis at Your Home? Here Are a Few Essential Tips for You

The genetics of the cannabis plants play a notable role in the flavor, aroma, yield, and the over-all traits of growth to the plants.

The process of seed selection is quite a crucial process among the step-by-step plant cultivation procedures because it’s the seeds that influence the outcome of the entire process deliberately.

Each of the growers has his/her own preferences when it comes to the type of strain.

Some prefer a Stoney indica or maybe a medicinal strain high in CBD compounds, while others like to go for a cerebral and powerful Sativa which provides motivation to the consumers and energizes them.

We are here to help you grow your plant right from the starting of the harvest so that you can grow your weed successfully with a great aroma. Here are the tips below:-

Tips to choose the right type of soil

Contents

The following things make the best cannabis soil:

  1. Light texture:-

The texture of the soil should be airy and light so that the roots can have easy access to oxygen and they can grow effortlessly without any obstruction.

  1. Water drainage:-

These plants do not like to have “wet feet” for a long period, so the water should be drained well.

  • Water retention:-

Much faster water draining is not advantageous either; the water and nutrients should be held by the soil for a reasonable period.

  1. Optimal pH:-

The perfect pH level for the soil is 6.0. A little difference (5.8-6.3) wouldn’t matter much, but if it hugely differs, it will make your yield suffer.

Whether your plants need nutrients or not

If you buy the soil from a store, it’s already pre-fertilized and specifically made with the perfect amount of nutrients, which is enough for the 3-4 weeks of growth. These nutrients work for 3-4 weeks, which is the average duration of the plants’ vegetative phase.

Now, if you are not using the store-bought readymade soil, you should follow the various concentrations that the cannabis plants require during the different phases of growth.

Here we mention the suggested NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) proportions for the vegetation and flowering of the plants:

  • Veg NPK:-

During the vegetative growth of the plants, the compounds in the cannabis need a High:Low:Medium NPK ratio (which is 3:1:2) with a good amount of nitrogen.

  • Flowering NPK:-

The flowering phase is the phase where the plants stop growing and start spending their energy on creating buds. During this phase, they require a Low:High:Medium NPK ratio (which is 1:3:2) with a very little amount of nitrogen and plenty of potassium and phosphorus.

And during the final weeks of the flowering stage, the NPK ratio should be modified to 0:3:3 to promote bud development.

Best lights for indoor growing

About the light, they say “The more, the better!”

Getting the best light is very important for the plants to grow and here’s how you find the right type of light for your plants:

  • CFLs:Compact Fluorescent Lights help in seeding and vegging.
  • HID lights:High-Intensity Discharge lights are available in 2 types, MH (metal halide) and HPS (high-pressure sodium). MH lamps help in vegging, while the HPS ones are helpful during the flowering process.
  • LEDs:These lamps work the same as the HID ones do, but with lesser consumption of energy.

Correct frequency for watering the plants

You should avoid watering the plants very frequently so that the soil gets time for drying out in between the sessions. You may test the soil often by putting your fingers, you should water the plants only when you feel that the top 3-4 cms are dry.

Best time to harvest the buds

Harvesting at the right time means not too early (so that the buds mature to their full potency, size, flavor) yet not too late (at a point the potency starts to degrade). Well, when you see most of the leaves of your plants have changed their colors and have turned yellowish, just know that the harvest time is coming closer.

So, here’s how you know that the potency time is near:-

  • Trichomes clear: Harvest still has a few weeks left.
  • Trichomes milky white: They have reached the maximum THC production, still 1-2 weeks away from harvest.
  • Some trichomes amber or brown, rest are still white: Perfect time for harvesting.

Conclusion

At last, we can say that the process of growing cannabis is quite lengthy but not difficult. It is a learning process, and you may expertise with time. It seeks detailed attention and a remarkable investment of money, effort, and most importantly, time.

You need to increase your flexibility of handling situations, and also develop your business capitals and supply of materials, to grow marijuana at your home successfully.
